Hi readers, back again with another post for you all to read and hopefully apply to your life. Today we are going to talk about "Self-Awareness" and why it is important to have in this journey of life. By definition self-awareness is the conscious knowledge of one's own character, feelings, motives, and desires. One might ask why is having self-awareness so important? I say that having self-awareness is important because it can help you become a better decision maker and also gain self confidence. Let's be real, everyone would want to improve in those two areas of their life.

Having great self awareness can save you so much trouble in this day and age. With social media content at an all time high and everyone sharing all kinds of different opinions, the need for Self-Awareness is needed now more than ever. Self-Awareness will allow you understand things from multiple different perspectives and have freedom from our own personal assumptions and biases. It will also allow you to know why you act a certain way when you see something. Self-Awareness also can play a role in practicing self control(something a lot of people do not have these days). Self control and self discipline can create you a life that you've always wanted.

With everyone on social media posting their own opinions and what not, if you're not careful you'll soon adopt those same thoughts and ideologies that you don't even care for. I've seen countless examples of where people on social media will try to define what success is and make you feel like a failure if you don't live up to those certain standards. Some won't have the Self-Awareness to know that everyone's path is different and nonlinear. Social media aside, even real life too, plenty of people will try define certain things for you because they think they know what is best for you. If you are not careful and don't have the self awareness, you'll chasing dreams/goals that you don't even want nor desire. There are many cases of that where parents will want their children to become doctors and the kid will become a doctor because their parents told them too. When in all actuality, the kid never wanted to be a doctor in the first place, the kid wanted to be a stock broker.

Take the time to build up the Self-Awareness to know what drives you, makes you mad, motivates you, how you work best, your triggers, your actual goals(not ones people have for you), bad habits, and plenty of others. Building that will make you not only a better human for others but a better human for yourself. You'll discover what you want out of life by building up your Self-Awareness.

Here are some ways to build up your Self-Awareness

  1. Reflect Reflect Reflect Take the time to constantly ask yourself questions, you'd be surprised how many people do not do this. When you ask yourself questions, you will often find the answers. The answers might not be immediate but they will come if you constantly are asking,

  2. Sit in silence Sometimes it takes cutting out the noise in order to hear yourself the best. Mindfulness and deep breathing techniques is a good way to do this. You begin to notice your thought patterns when you sit and breathe.

  3. Talk to the right people Take the time to ask questions to trusted friends, coaches, and mentors. Sometimes having an external view of you is not a bad thing. People sometimes pick on things about you that you may not even notice.

  4. Take an assessment test Sometimes, assessment tests can be very helpful when you answer the questions truthfully. These tests can provide deep questions for you to answer that you may not even thought to answer.

  5. Experiment Sometimes it just takes trying things. You never know if you don't like something unless you try it. You may discover a new career that you never heard of because you tried something that a friend may have recommended. So don't be afraid of trying new things and don't let difficulty become a hinderance either.

Thanks so much for reading this, I hope you find these tools helpful.

Until Next Time
